You've Got to Be Kidding!

OneNewsNow has a story that relates to the story below. Here is the opening paragraph.

A group of evangelical and Catholic leaders claims pro-life voters should be willing to support presidential nominee Barack Obama because there's been a "positive shift" in language on the issue of abortion in the Democratic Party platform.

The article then goes on show that this "positive shift" is a crock of bull corn by quoting directly from the platform.

"...strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay, and we oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right."
"...strongly supports access to affordable family planning services and comprehensive age-appropriate sex education which empowers people to make informed choices and live healthy lives. We also recognize that such health care and education help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also reduce the need for abortions."

So where do these "religious leaders" see the positive shift? From this part of the platform:

"...strongly supports a woman's decision to have a child by ensuring access to and availability of programs for pre- and post-natal health care, parenting skills, income support, and caring adoption programs."

To which I say, "Big freaking deal!" Pre- and post-natal health care equals big government program. Parenting skills endorsed by the Democrats are likely not to be biblically based. Income support equals another big government program and likely dependency for these women and their children. And by caring adoption programs I am sure that they mean adoption programs that include gay, transgender, shack-up, etc. couples.

Christians of America need to wise up and not blindly follow their leaders. These "leaders" make me sick and angry. ARRR!

The New Dem. Party

I thought I would pass this along from FRC.

For the first time in history, the Democratic planks will call for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. Democrats put in writing their intent to defeat any effort to weaken Roe v. Wade. This is the face of the Left under Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) who is single-handedly recasting his party in the image of NARAL and the Human Rights Campaign. Although the last Democratic president, Bill Clinton, was the one who signed DOMA into law, Sen. Obama is adamant about repealing it, an act that would leave every state in America at risk of being forced to recognize homosexual marriage.

What has been the general belief of most Democrats they have put into writing. And, unlike the Republicans, they will likely follow through on their platform. God help us all!

From an Experienced Homeschooler

I got this as part of an e-mail from an experienced homeschool mom.

The most important thing any homeschool parent can do is to learn to see true education and learning. Learning is not reading a chapter in a text book and then answering 10 questions. Learning is a spark, given by God to our children, that we provide kindling for so it can grow and flourish. True education is a child learning how to get information about what ever subject they are interested in or need to know. Education is a skill and state of mind that should be a life long experince, not 13 years, 8:30 - 3:30 PM.

I think she is right.

I also think that a Christian education goes beyond that. A Christian education is not just adding a few verses to a secular curriculum. It is an ability to seek the Lord and not be deceived by the world. It is the ability to read His Word and make sense of it. I am coming to believe that, if a Christian child grows into an adult cannot see how God has woven himself into all areas of life, the child is poorly educated.

Olympic Opening Ceremony

I watched the Olympic Opening Ceremony yesterday. It was truly an amazing display of beauty and human synchronicity. But I found another aspect of it more interesting.

I thought it was interesting that in communist China where the government would like everyone to be atheist they had a show celebrating their religious roots. If Chicago gets the Olympics in 2016, what do you think the odds are that our Christian roots will be celebrated? About zero, I'd say.

Let's not forget two things. 1. America's roots are unapologetically Christian. 2. China is making great strides as a country, but that doesn't mean that we should assume they are "friendly" toward us.

Praise the Lord!

I saw a sign for $3.58/gallon gas. I immediately thought, "Praise the Lord." Then I thought, "How often do I praise Him when things are going the way I like and forget to praise him when things go the way I don't like?"

It also made me think that He often gives us difficulties so that we appreciate the easier times. 5 years ago I would have been coughing and sputtering over $3.58/gallon gas. Now I am excited to see it.

So, let's all praise the Lord whatever our circumstances.

40 Days for Life

I went to a meeting yesterday and became an official 40 Days for Life core team member. I really encourage everyone to get involved with this nation wide effort.

The 40 Days for Life was started in 2004 in Bryan/College Station, TX when a local pro-life group prayed for an answer about how to reduce abortions in their area. God's answer was the 40 days for Life. With only 2 weeks of preparation, the campaign activated 1000 people and led to a 28% drop in abortions that year. The campaign quickly spread to other cities, culminating in nationally coordinated efforts in the fall of 2007, Lent of 2008 and again this fall from September 24-November 2. Results have been overwhelming: hundreds of lives saved, abortion clinics closing, post-abortive women finding healing, abortion workers converting, and more.

This year there are 170+ cities participating (the list won't be online for a few more days). Even if your city doesn't participate officially, you can always participate by praying for abortions to end in your city, county, state, and country.

God has used 40 day periods throughout the Bible. I look forward to seeing what God will do during this one.

Bravo, God!

God's creation is so amazing. Even though it has been marred by the sin of human beings, creation is still an incredible thing to behold. It is also very humbling to me. With all of our intelligence and experimenting and exploring, we do not even understand a tenth of a percent of the vast variety on this planet nor do we even understand our own bodies. I am linking to two videos that I found at GreatHomeschoolVideos. I encourage you to go and check out the rest of their videos when you have a chance.

This first video is a man born without eyes who can paint better than many sighted people. If you would like to visit Mr. Armagan's website, click here.

This second video shows some of the amazing deep water animals we are only just discovering.
