The Leftist

Shane at Caffeinated Thoughts pointed out a great article by Dennis Prager. In it, Mr. Prager points out that now, for the first time, many Americans are seeing the real left. He goes on to lay out some principles that define the Left.

Principal One: The left, as distinct from traditional liberals, is not, and has never been, interested in creating wealth.

I encourage you to read the whole thing. He makes some really great points.

Frances,

Dropping in for a visit to let you know that I continue to check and read your blog periodically. We have similar views on most things.

I see and often read Dennis Prager's column in the National Weekly Edition of the Washington Times. I had not previously seen the piece that you referenced here on the Left and just finished reading it in its entirety.

Through the years I have read various books that dealt with the political and cultural Left. I think that LEFTISM REVISTED by Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn, published some years ago, is perhaps among the most scholarly I have read. It is a heavily documented summary of historical leftist ideology and totalitarian governments growing out of it.

Impressions strongly made upon my mind from my reading and observations about leftists ideology and personalities include the following. The Left tends to allow freedom below the belt (that is personal immorality) but strict control above the belt (that is control over man's intellectual, spiritual, political and economical life). Also, while declaring its desire to help people and make a better world it inevitably assumes totalitarian power by any means and having gained this power it inevitably seeks to destroy, eliminate, or imprison those who oppose it, confiscating the property and assets of its opponets in the process.

No problem, if I had a nickel for every time somebody called me Shawn I'd be a rich man :)
